The labor market in Ukraine is undergoing significant changes: an increasing number of older people are returning to active professional activity. According to the State Employment Service, there has been a steady growth in the number of employed citizens over the age of 50 over the last year. Among the most in-demand professions for this category of job seekers, drivers, salespeople, and accountants traditionally remain.

### Employment Statistics in 2026

As of the end of June 2026, thanks to the support of the employment service, 47,000 Ukrainians over the age of 50 have found jobs. This figure is impressive: it accounts for 32% of the total number of all employed citizens during the same period. Experts note that the trend of growing employment among the older generation has been observed for several years in a row.

The geography of successful employment covers many regions. The leaders in the number of vacancies found for older people were Dnipropetrovsk, Lviv, Cherkasy, Poltava, Kyiv, and Vinnytsia regions.

### National Project "Experience Matters"

To systematically support this initiative, the national project "Experience Matters" was launched in May 2026. Its main goal is to accelerate the job search process for citizens aged 50+ and help employers fill staffing shortages with qualified specialists with extensive experience.

The results of the project can already be assessed by the numbers:

- 2,300 job seekers have joined the program.

- Employers have offered more than 2,700 vacancies.

- Currently, about 700 participants are undergoing internships.

- 800 people have already been successfully employed.

The greatest activity within the framework of the project is demonstrated by Kyiv, as well as Lviv, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Mykolaiv, and Rivne regions. Most often, program participants find work in positions such as salespeople, accountants, drivers, cooks, and administrators.

### Balance of Generations in the Labor Market

The State Employment Service emphasizes that the project solves a two-sided task: it helps experienced people return to their profession and gives businesses access to qualified personnel. At the same time, the labor market remains open for young people. In Ukraine, one can officially work from the age of 16, and under certain conditions — from 14 or 15 years old.

In the summer of 2026, vacancies in the fields of trade, catering, agriculture, and services are open for teenagers and students. Young specialists can work as waiters, bartenders, couriers, packers, or berry pickers. Salaries for some vacancies for young people reach 40,000 hryvnias, making work an attractive alternative for students.
