# Empty shelves and fuel rationing: a humanitarian crisis is growing in occupied Crimea

A critical shortage of food products is being recorded in occupied Crimea. Basic goods are rapidly disappearing from the shelves of local stores: sugar, cereals, flour, salt, and pasta. The situation, reported by RBK-Ukraine citing the Center for Countering Disinformation, is causing growing anxiety among the residents of the peninsula.

### Panic in stores and purchase restrictions

Local residents are reporting empty shelves in retail outlets in large numbers. In response to the surge in demand, some retail chains have already introduced strict limits on the amount of goods that can be purchased by one person. Instead of stabilizing the situation, these measures are only intensifying panic in society, forcing people to stock up on supplies.

### Causes of the shortage: from migrants to logistics

Experts and eyewitnesses highlight several key factors that have led to the crisis:

- **Increased demand:** A significant number of migrants and military personnel brought in by Russia have sharply increased the consumption of essential goods.

- **Logistical collapse:** Serious difficulties with deliveries are exacerbating the situation, making it impossible to replenish stocks quickly.

### Strikes on infrastructure and "fuel rationing coupons"

The root of the problems lies in regular strikes by Ukrainian defense forces against energy infrastructure. On June 7, two of the peninsula's largest oil depots, as well as an FSB facility, were hit. In response to these actions, the occupation administration introduced strict restrictions and rationing coupons for gasoline.

Russia has officially acknowledged "temporary difficulties" with fuel supplies in the south of the country and in Crimea, creating a separate industry headquarters to resolve the issue. However, despite the obvious crisis, local authorities continue to avoid public explanations, trying to maintain an appearance of stability.
