# End of fuel cashback: what will change for drivers in 2026

Drivers in Ukraine have received exact dates for the conclusion of one of the most popular social initiatives. The state program for compensating fuel expenses, which has become a lifeline for many families amidst high prices, will remain in effect until May 31, 2026. After this date, new cashback accruals for refueling will cease; however, the "National Cashback" platform itself will not disappear but will instead undergo transformation.

### Why was the program extended until May 2026?

The decision to extend the validity of the initiative was made by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine for specific reasons. The primary factor was the maintenance of high fuel prices and the sustained demand from citizens for support. The government recognizes that in the current economic reality, every hryvnia counts, so it extended the validity of the benefit to give people time to adapt to new conditions.

### Limits and conditions: how it works now

As of May 1, 2025, the rules of the game have changed slightly. The maximum payout amount is now 500 hryvnias per month per user. Program administrators explain that this limit is the most targeted: it covers the real needs of most participants without spreading the budget over inflated amounts. It is important to remember: compensation is accrued exclusively for cashless transactions.

### Scale of support

During the operation of the program, more than 2 million Ukrainians have already received financial assistance. The initiative involves 219 operators of gas stations — from federal networks to local fuel complexes. This has made support accessible in practically any corner of the country.

### What will happen after the end of fuel cashback?

The cessation of fuel payments does not mean the end of the "National Cashback" program itself. It will continue to operate, but will shift its focus to other categories of goods and services. Citizens will be able to spend the received funds on:

- Utility bills and postal services;

- Purchase of medicines and medical devices;

- Books and Ukrainian goods;

- Charity, including support for the Defense Forces of Ukraine.

As noted by Deputy Minister of Economy, Ecology and Agriculture Vitaliy Kindrativ, the program has already proven its effectiveness, becoming real support for millions of households. Now, as the stage of fuel compensation is coming to an end, the state is ready to support citizens in other areas of life.
