# Escape of the 'Orca': How Putin's Yacht Fled to the Arctic Under Escort of a Destroyer

One of the most mysterious and expensive yachts in the world, the vessel «Graceful» (later renamed «Orca»), is leaving European waters. The 82-meter ship, valued at 100 million pounds sterling and closely linked to Russian leader Vladimir Putin, is making an emergency transit to the Arctic. Experts cite the growing threat from Ukrainian drones as the reason for this maneuver.

### Special Operation: Escort and Anti-Drone Protection

According to maritime intelligence data and satellite imagery, the yacht is moving along the coast of Norway, heading towards the port of Murmansk. The vessel is not traveling alone — it is covered with a special anti-drone net and is under enhanced security. The escort is provided by two Russian ships: the I-class destroyer «Severomorsk» and the 7,500-ton rescue and patrol ship «Voevoda».

Although the yacht's Automatic Identification System (AIS) stopped transmitting data after entering the North Sea, the accompanying ship «Voevoda» continues to communicate. According to The Telegraph, the convoy is following a course past the Norwegian city of Tromsø, after which it plans to dock in Murmansk.

### Under NATO's Crosshairs

The movement of such a significant asset is under close scrutiny by Western countries. A high-ranking NATO source confirmed that the convoy is being monitored by the Alliance. Previously, while sailing in the Baltic Sea, the vessels were accompanied by patrol ships of the German and Danish navies.

The yacht «Graceful» is known for its luxurious features and hidden functions. It is equipped with saltwater and freshwater pools, a helipad, a gym, and secure communication systems for government agencies. According to US government documents, Putin has made numerous trips on this vessel, including a journey along the Black Sea in 2021 together with Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko.

### Why the Yacht Disappeared and Returned?

The vessel had been hidden from the public until last week. For the first time in four years, it appeared in public when the AIS system transmitted information about its movement through the Danish Straits. The history of the «Orca» spans several years: 17 days before the start of the full-scale war between Russia and Ukraine, the yacht was transferred from the Blohm & Voss shipyard in Hamburg to the Russian city of Kaliningrad. Four months later, the US added the vessel to the sanctions list, forcing the owners to change the name to «Orca».

### Fear of Drones: Kronstadt and the Caspian

The decision to transfer the yacht to a safe zone appears to be dictated by recent events. Just a week ago, Ukrainian drones struck the strategically important Kronstadt naval base on Kotlin Island, located just 19 km from St. Petersburg. The attack hit one of the modern ships of the Russian Navy — the «Boykiy», which vividly demonstrated the vulnerability of the Russian fleet even in the rear.

Satellite images show that after the attacks, the base in Kronstadt was unusually empty. Compared to June 2025, the number of vessels decreased by at least 9 units. Earlier, in November, similar strikes were carried out against the frigates «Gepard», «Tatarstan», and «Dagestan», as well as missile ships in the Caspian Sea, located almost 1,000 miles from Ukraine.

### The «Dictator's» Fleet

Experts note that the realization of the ineffectiveness of the Russian air defense system is forcing the Kremlin to move its most valuable assets from the Baltic region to safe Arctic ports. In 2023, the «Dossier» center published an investigation stating that the fleet associated with Putin could number up to 10 yachts and auxiliary ships. That material also mentioned the megayacht «Victoria» and a boat named «Orion».
