# New Blow to 'Shaheds': EU Prepares Sanctions Against Manufacturers of Navigation Systems for Russian Drones

The European Union is on the verge of adopting a new, targeted sanctions package aimed at undermining the production chain of Russian attack drones. Brussels' focus is not on the factories themselves, but on suppliers of critical components without which the operation of 'Shahed' kamikaze drones becomes impossible.

### Target — 'Komet'

The key element likely to fall under restrictions is the 'Komet' navigation system. This system is responsible for target designation and flight control of the drones, making them an effective weapon. Vladyslav Vlasjuk, the President of Ukraine's Commissioner for Sanctions Policy, called the inclusion of 'Komet' on the blacklist a 'good target' and emphasized that this is a direct recommendation from Kyiv to the EU.

According to Vlasjuk, restrictions on manufacturers of navigation modules can deal a significant blow to the logistics and production of Russian drones, complicating their further use against Ukraine.

### Mini-package with a Big Impact

Unlike massive sanction waves covering hundreds of companies, the new package will be extremely concise. The list features fewer than ten items. However, as experts note, precisely this targeted approach allows for hitting the mark, blocking specific nodes upon which the operability of the entire weapon system depends.

The discussion concerns enterprises and structures ensuring the production of important elements for Russian attack drones. The package is expected to be approved as early as next week.

### The China Question

In the context of the fight against the production of Russian drones, the question of China's role remains open. Earlier, Ukraine submitted a package of documents to Beijing evidencing the use of Chinese components in Russian weaponry. Despite the provided evidence, no official reaction from the PRC has followed over the past six months, allowing Russian manufacturers to continue purchasing necessary parts.
