# European Commission Accuses TikTok of Violating DSA: Children Remain Vulnerable Due to Default Settings

The European Commission has accused TikTok of violating the Digital Services Act (DSA). Regulators claim that the platform's current design does not provide sufficient protection for underage users against cyberbullying and contact with scammers.

### The Problem of Public Profiles

In the opinion of European officials, TikTok's account security standards do not meet legislative requirements. The key issue is that the platform allows children and teenagers to create public profiles, making their content accessible to a wide circle of third-party users.

Even when choosing private mode, the pages of minors remain vulnerable. Malicious actors can find them through the subscription lists of other users, and having their own account on the social network is not even necessary for this.

### Regulator Requirements

The European Commission is demanding that the company change its default settings. According to the new requirements, teenagers' content should be visible exclusively to users whom the child has personally confirmed as followers. The protection of children's rights in the digital space, according to regulators, should be a standard feature, not an option that needs to be selected manually.

This is already the fourth official accusation against TikTok in the last two years. Now the company has the right to review the audit documents and provide an official response. If the regulators' arguments are confirmed, TikTok faces serious financial penalties.

### Fines and Company Position

The fine for violating DSA rules can amount to up to 6% of ByteDance's global annual turnover. Representatives of the social network have stated their readiness to cooperate with regulators and study the commission's conclusions in detail. The company emphasizes that the safety of teenagers remains a priority for them.

According to developers, more than 50 pre-installed safety functions are already in effect for accounts of users under 18 years old. In addition, teenagers are deprived of the ability to use private messages and do not appear in the general "For You" recommendation feed.
