On Saturday evening, August 1, a terrible event shook the heart of Moscow. Around 20:00, a powerful explosion occurred at the elite Balzi Rossi restaurant, located on the first floor of the famous Stalinist skyscraper on Kudrinskaya Square. The epicenter of the incident was in one of the most prestigious and recognizable corners of the capital, turning an ordinary evening into a nightmare for dozens of people.

According to the latest data from emergency services, the tragedy claimed the lives of three people. At least 21 others were injured with varying degrees of severity. Doctors report that the condition of 17 victims is assessed as serious or critical. Among the injured were at least four kitchen staff members, as well as invited artists. People are being urgently evacuated on stretchers, and dozens of ambulance teams have been dispatched to the scene.

The main working theory of the investigation and emergency services is an explosion of gas equipment or a cylinder in the kitchen. Nevertheless, some witnesses and sources indicate that the epicenter of the shock wave affected the guest area as well, which could have led to such extensive destruction and loss of life. After the blast, a strong fire broke out in the premises, which was promptly assigned the third, elevated level of complexity.

### Paralysis of the center and cancellation of the festival

The scale of the incident went far beyond the restaurant. Law enforcement agencies completely blocked traffic on the section from the "Barricadnaya" metro station to Novinsky Boulevard. The incident paralyzed the city center and disrupted major urban events. The city authorities were forced to officially announce the cancellation of the start of the All-Moscow Night Bike Festival, the route of which was supposed to go along the Garden Ring. Race coordinators urgently turned back and evacuated thousands of gathered cyclists.

A large operational headquarters has been set up at the scene. EMERCOM rescuers and police continue to work on clearing debris and eliminating the consequences of the fire.
