The events in the Romanian port of Constanța, where an explosion occurred on the morning of June 5, have received an unexpected explanation. It turned out that the sea drone that caused the alarm was Ukrainian, but it ended up in Romanian waters solely due to the actions of Russian military forces.

As reported by RBK-Ukraine citing the press service of the Ukrainian Navy, the incident occurred during the execution of a combat mission in the Black Sea operational zone. One of the unmanned boats of the Ukrainian Armed Forces lost control under the influence of the enemy's electronic warfare (EW) systems. As a result of a navigation failure, the drone was forced to deviate from its course and ended up on the coast of Romania.

### Timely warning and coordination

The key factor that prevented casualties among the civilian population was the operational work of the Ukrainian military. The Ukrainian Navy promptly transferred all necessary information to the Romanian Navy immediately after losing control of the drone. This allowed the Romanian side to prepare for a possible incident.

Ukrainian Foreign Ministry representative Georgiy Tikhyy confirmed these data, noting that the relevant authorities of both countries established close contact and took full control of the situation. It was precisely this effective coordination that allowed for safety measures to be taken in the port area and to avoid human casualties.

'This incident once again shows that the ongoing full-scale aggression by Russia poses a threat not only to Ukraine but to the entire region,' Tikhyy emphasized.

### Chronology of the explosion and the authorities' reaction

The explosion itself occurred on the morning of June 5 in the port of Constanța. Romanian authorities were forced to activate the 'Red Intervention Plan' — a special protocol for responding to high-risk emergencies. No one was injured as a result of the explosion.

The Romanian Ministry of Defense reported that the destroyed drone visually resembles the Magura V5 boat, which is actively used in the war in Ukraine. The military also noted that the explosion was not controlled, and initially, it remained unclear how the drone ended up in the port.

The situation was complicated by the fact that four more boats with explosives were discovered in the coastal zone of the Constanța port. This forced local authorities to exercise maximum vigilance until the origin of the first drone became known.
