# Explosion of ammunition at the Khmelnytskyi training ground: missing and wounded SSO soldiers

On July 31, a serious emergency occurred in the Khmelnytskyi region, resulting in the death or disappearance of military personnel. Explosions were heard at the training ground of one of the military units, followed by a mass detonation of ammunition. The tragedy occurred while there was no air raid alert in the city.

### Search for the missing and aid to the wounded

According to official data from the Special Operations Forces (SOF) of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as of 19:00 on July 31, contact was lost with five servicemen of the special unit. Active search and rescue operations are continuing at the scene to determine the fate of the soldiers.

In addition, three more SOF personnel were injured as a result of the incident. All the wounded were promptly taken to a medical facility where they are receiving necessary assistance.

### Investigation and qualification

The detonation of ammunition at the training ground was contained by the evening of July 31. Law enforcement agencies have already initiated a criminal case to establish all the circumstances of the tragedy.

The preliminary qualification of the incident is a violation of the rules for handling weapons, as well as substances and items that pose increased danger to the surroundings. According to Part 2 of Article 414 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, the actions resulted in bodily harm to several individuals.

### Departmental response

Representatives of the Special Operations Forces confirmed the fact of the incident and reported that they are providing law enforcement with all necessary information and assistance during the investigation. The department intends to establish the exact causes that led to the explosion and subsequent detonation.
