# Fatal Car Accident at Kardachi: Mercedes Driver Had 39 Traffic Violations

In Kyiv, on Chokolovsky Boulevard in the Kardachi area, a tragedy occurred that claimed the lives of four people. A Mercedes-Benz C300, traveling at high speed, crashed into an underground pedestrian crossing. As a result of the collision, four people died, including a 12-year-old child. Three other passengers sustained serious injuries. Rescuers had to extract the driver, a 49-year-old man, from the completely crushed cabin.

### The Driver's History of Violations

The investigation has already established that the driver was not a novice on the roads and had been held accountable multiple times. According to Oleksiy Biloshytskyi, First Deputy Head of the Patrol Police Department, 39 traffic violations were recorded for the vehicle that caused the tragedy. The vast majority of them involved speeding. Only in the past year, there were 18 such cases.

Furthermore, in March of this year, another traffic accident involving this vehicle occurred, which, fortunately, resulted in no casualties. The systematic disregard for safety rules has become a factor that law enforcement officers are now considering key in the investigation.

### The Question of Punishment Effectiveness

Following the tragedy, a representative of the patrol police raised the issue of the need to review the current system of penalties for systematic traffic violations. Oleksiy Biloshytskyi emphasized that regular disregard for the rules should be a signal to the state about the potential danger to other road users.

In his words, in many countries around the world, alongside fines, there are mechanisms that allow for a response specifically to repeated dangerous behavior by drivers. Biloshytskyi believes that similar tools are necessary for Ukraine to prevent such tragedies in the future.

### Violation Statistics

The scale of the problem is confirmed by overall statistics. From January 1 to June 5, 2026, units of the National Police recorded more than 1.05 million administrative offenses in the field of road safety. Another 1.73 million rulings were issued for violations recorded by automatic recording cameras.

Biloshytskyi expressed his condolences to the relatives and loved ones of those killed in the accident, noting that this tragedy served as yet another reminder of how important it is to follow the rules on the roads.
