# FBI Officially Denies Reports That Director Kash Patel Secretly Traveled to Russia

![FBI Director Kash Patel during an official address](https://xab.info/media/2026/10/15/fbr-oproverglo-poyezdku-kasha-patelya-v-rossiyu/fbr-oproverglo-poyezdku-kasha-patelya-v-rossiyu-1.webp)

## Key Points

- FBI released video evidence proving Kash Patel was in Virginia
- MS NOW reporter Ken Dilanian admitted his error regarding the Moscow trip
- House Democrats had previously questioned Patel regarding planned travel

The US Federal Bureau of Investigation has officially refuted reports claiming that FBI Director Kash Patel made a clandestine visit to the Russian Federation. The scandal erupted after media outlets published claims regarding secret negotiations between the head of the US agency and representatives of Russian security services.

### Chronology of Events and Alibi Evidence

According to The Hill, on October 14, 2026, the FBI leadership released video recordings and documentary evidence completely disproving the rumors. The materials clearly demonstrate that at the time of the alleged 'visit to Moscow,' Kash Patel was attending an official public event in Lynchburg, Virginia. This evidence became the key argument in dismissing the false accusations.

### FBI Director's Reaction and Media Admission of Error

Sharing the bureau's official statement on social media, FBI Director Kash Patel strongly criticized MS NOW and reporter Ken Dilanian for spreading false information in pursuit of ratings. The agency head demanded public apologies from the broadcaster and the American public. Later, Ken Dilanian was forced to openly admit his gross error live on air, while representatives of MS NOW declined further comments.

### Background and Congressional Inquiries

Sources note that the groundwork for these rumors was laid by earlier media reports, notably a summer article by Politico. It claimed that Kash Patel was allegedly planning a trip to Russia in mid-October. This announcement sparked fierce resistance and concern from Democrats in Congress. Earlier this month, prominent lawmakers Jamie Raskin and Jim Himes sent an official letter requesting Patel to explain potential national security risks regarding such a trip.

### Contradictory Data

The situation surrounding the trip remains a subject of debate due to discrepancies between past plans and current facts. On one hand, congressional inquiries and July leaks confirmed that the FBI chief had intentions or discussions about visiting Moscow amid strong opposition. On the other hand, the official FBI stance and indisputable video evidence from Virginia clearly show that the actual October trip did not take place and the director remained in the US. Kremlin representatives previously stated they had no information regarding such visits.
