In the Kakheti region in northeastern Georgia, a scandal has erupted over a man's attack on a group of female tourists in a hotel room. The incident, which has garnered widespread attention on social media, has divided public opinion: some see it as an act of xenophobia, while others view it as a domestic dispute that escalated into a fight.

### Timeline of events: from champagne to a broken nose

According to published reports, a group of women was staying in a room with a balcony overlooking the area where a wedding ceremony was taking place. According to the victim's friend, Polina Kurta, the conflict began with a mundane situation. The women opened a bottle of champagne, after which they were informed from below that they had allegedly damaged DJ equipment.

The situation quickly escalated into a verbal altercation. According to the victims, a man participating in the wedding broke into their room. In a video published by Polina Kurta, the man can be seen inside the room before striking one of the women.

According to Yulia, she defended her friends, who were being insulted by the man, and it was at that moment that she received a blow to the face. Doctors diagnosed the victim with a broken nose. The woman was taken to the hospital, where she received necessary medical attention.

### Two versions: xenophobia or defending the celebration?

A debate has arisen regarding the motives for the attack. Polina Kurta claims that the man entered the room after hearing the women speaking Russian on the balcony. According to her, the attacker learned the room number through hotel staff, raising questions about the breach of confidentiality.

However, the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs has presented a different version of events. The department stated that the conflict began after foreign guests on the balcony insulted the wedding participants and doused the equipment with water. According to the police, these actions provoked the fight, during which the man struck a foreign national.

### Investigation and hotel response

The suspect has been detained by law enforcement authorities. He has been charged with intentionally causing minor bodily harm. Under Georgian law, this charge carries a potential sentence of up to three years in prison.

The administration of the Agarani Estate hotel issued an official statement. The hotel emphasized that the incident was the result of the actions of individual guests and does not reflect the establishment's position. The administration also categorically denied claims that hotel staff disclosed information about guests' room numbers or participated in the conflict.

The victims themselves stated that they would not comment in detail on the incident until the investigation is concluded. Meanwhile, Polina Kurta clarified details of the victim's biography, refuting reports by Russian media that Yulia is a Russian citizen. Kurta stated that she was born in Ukraine, lives in Russia, and that friends from Ukraine had traveled to Georgia with her to celebrate a birthday.
