# Fine up to 17,000 UAH: Ukraine prepares strict measures for road 'racers'

Ukrainian authorities are preparing to drastically tighten liability for speeding on the roads. In the near future, violators who disregard traffic rules may face fines reaching 17,000 UAH. The new rules of the game were explained by the First Deputy Head of the Patrol Police Department, Alexey Beloshitsky, during a televised marathon.

### Progressive punishment system

According to the police representative, the amount of the fine will depend directly on the degree of the violation. The higher the speed at which the vehicle is traveling, the more substantial the fine will be. However, the harshest sanctions are provided not for one-time cases, but for those who do this systematically.

The maximum fine of 17,000 UAH threatens drivers who, within a year, exceed the permitted speed by more than 60 or 80 km/h five or more times. This approach is designed to strengthen responsibility for those who regularly endanger themselves and other road users.

### Discounts and new technologies

Despite the severity of the new measures, drivers are provided with the possibility of mitigating punishment. If the fine is paid within the first 10 days from the moment of receiving information about the violation, the amount of the fine will be reduced by 50%.

Control over compliance with speed limits in the country is becoming increasingly technological. Recently, another 37 new complexes for automatic recording of traffic violations began operating on Ukrainian roads. These cameras work around the clock and record every instance of speeding, transmitting data to the database for subsequent fine processing.

### Prospects: penalty points and license suspension

Tightening control is not limited to financial penalties alone. Already this year, Ukraine plans to introduce a penalty points system. According to this initiative, upon accumulating a certain number of violations, drivers will be deprived of the right to operate motor vehicles. This will become an additional argument for those accustomed to breaking the rules.

Currently, drivers can promptly check for the presence of fines and pay them through special services, which simplifies the process of interaction with law enforcement agencies and helps avoid additional legal problems.
