The Finnish Defence Forces temporarily restricted shipping in the eastern part of the Gulf of Finland on the morning of July 18. This decision was made as part of preventive security measures aimed at protecting against potential threats from unmanned aerial vehicles.

### Reason for restrictions — drone threat

As explained by the Finnish Defence Forces, closing the waters is necessary to ensure the safety of citizens and maintain the ability to respond quickly in the event of a threat. The military emphasizes that this is strictly a preventive action designed to create conditions for the effective work of security services.

Katri Kokkola, a representative of the General Staff of the Finnish Defence Forces, stated that at this time, no drones have been recorded deviating from their route and violating the country's airspace. Nevertheless, the Finnish military has strengthened its air defense system as an additional precautionary measure.

### Airspace remains open

It is important to note that despite the shipping restrictions, no restrictions were imposed on the use of Finnish airspace on July 18. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and are ready to take additional measures if necessary to protect the territory.

### Finland — a leader in civil defense

Finland is considered one of the most prepared countries in Europe in the field of civil defense. The shelter system created in the country allows a large part of Helsinki's residents to be sheltered within a short time in the event of a military threat. This testifies to the high level of the state's readiness for possible crisis situations.

Thus, the introduced restrictions are part of a comprehensive approach by the Finnish authorities to ensuring national security in the face of growing threats from drone technology.
