# Fire at 'Knihoholov' warehouse: Russia destroyed 250,000 books in strike on Ukraine

On the night of July 19, the Ukrainian publishing house 'Knihoholov' became a victim of a Russian strike. As a result of the attack, the warehouse was completely destroyed, where a significant part of the company's book fund was located. The fire consumed about 250,000 copies — this is the result of months of work by authors, editors, designers, and printing houses.

### No human casualties, but losses are colossal

According to an official statement by the publishing house, published on social media and reprinted by RBC-Ukraine, no employees were injured. However, the material damage turned out to be catastrophic. The burnt books represented not just merchandise, but a cultural product created for the Ukrainian reader.

"We lost almost 250,000 books. This is the result of the work of authors, translators, editors, designers, printing houses, and the entire team working daily for the Ukrainian reader," the company emphasized.

### Consequences for business and readers

The destruction of the warehouse will inevitably affect the work of the publishing house. The statement notes that temporary delays in shipping orders are possible. The 'Knihoholov' team has already begun restoring processes, striving to resume work in the shortest possible time.

### War against culture

Representatives of the publishing house called this incident a continuation of Russian aggression, directed not only against people but also against Ukrainian culture, education, and the future. "Russia has once again proven that it is waging war not only against people but also against Ukrainian culture, education, and our future," 'Knihoholov' stated.

### Second major loss in a month

This is already the second major incident involving books in the last month. On the night of July 2, during a massive attack on Kyiv, the warehouse of logistics partner BookChef was destroyed, where about 800,000 books burned. The cumulative losses of the Ukrainian book industry for this period amount to millions of copies.
