A major fire has broken out in Kyiv's Podilskyi district. The incident occurred on July 15 in a non-residential building on Nekrasova Street. Witnesses, who promptly reported the emergency in local Telegram channels, suggested that the fire had engulfed warehouse facilities.

### Scale of the fire and rescue operations

Pavlo Petrov, a spokesperson for the State Emergency Service (SES), confirmed the fire. According to him, the fire covered a significant area of 800 square meters. A column of black smoke rising above the building was visible from many points in the city.

Rescue services arrived at the scene promptly. By 15:30, the situation was brought under control: the fire was localized, open flames were extinguished, and the spread of the fire was stopped. Firefighters continue to work at the site to completely eliminate smoldering and prevent re-ignition.

### Context: fires in the Chernobyl zone

The incident in Kyiv is occurring against the backdrop of recent large-scale natural fires in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone. There, as a result of Russian attacks, strong fires broke out, which rescue workers fought for several weeks. The fire destroyed the forest litter and fallen timber, threatening to spread over large areas.

Only on July 10 did the SES officially announce the complete liquidation of fires in Chernobyl. During the extinguishing, rescuers regularly measured the radiation background, which remained within normal limits. The situation in the Podilskyi district is developing according to the scenario of a local technological emergency, not related to radiation threats.
