On the evening of June 16, the city of Zaporizhzhia became the target of Russian strikes. As a result of the attack, a massive fire broke out, engulfing a residential building and a shopping center. The situation at the scene remains tense: flames lick the sky, and rescuers continue their work on extinguishing the fire and inspecting the impact sites.

### Casualties and Injured

According to preliminary data confirmed by the head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Administration, Ivan Fedorov, one person died during this attack. Three more injured people sought medical assistance. The inspection of the aftermath of the strike is ongoing, and the exact scale of the destruction will be known later.

For those who have been affected or need support, special help lines are operating:

    - City call center: 15-80, (050) 414 15 80, (067) 656 15 80.

    - Hotline of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration regarding evacuation and assistance to victims: 0800 331 630.

### Context: Escalation of strikes on infrastructure

Zaporizhzhia is not being targeted for the first time. Just a few days prior, on June 12, a Russian drone attacked the "Nova Poshta" terminal in the city. A massive fire broke out then as well, but fortunately, there were no casualties. However, the current event demonstrates the growing danger to the civilian population.

Attacks on civilian infrastructure are continuing across the country. On the night of June 15, Russia launched a combined strike on Kyiv. Residential buildings, high-rise buildings, and the historical complex of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra were hit. There are casualties as a result of the attack.

### Statistics: May 2026

The scale of violence is steadily growing. According to the UN, May 2026 became the bloodiest month for the civilian population of Ukraine in the last four years. The total number of casualties exceeded 2,000 people in just 30 days. Experts point out that the main cause of such a tragedy is Russia's use of powerful weapons, including missiles and aerial bombs, directly in urban areas. Such strikes regularly lead to the death and injury of dozens of people at once.
