# Fire on the Golden Rose: Russia Attacks Commercial Vessels and Blocks Ukraine's Sea Corridor

A humanitarian catastrophe is unfolding in the Black Sea, threatening global food security. Russian military forces have launched a series of attacks on civilian cargo ships, leading to a complete paralysis of traffic through Ukraine's sea corridor. In response to the escalation of violence, Kyiv is initiating an emergency session of the UN Security Council.

### Attacks on Civilian Vessels and Human Casualties

Over the past few days, the situation in the Black Sea has sharply deteriorated. Russian troops have shelled at least three civilian cargo ships. The consequences of the attacks have been tragic: dozens of crew members have been killed or injured. Among the victims is the crew of the bulk carrier *Golden Rose*, which was attacked on the night of July 22. Despite the efforts of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, which conducted an operation to evacuate 16 sailors, the ship continues to burn, becoming a symbol of the destruction of trade routes.

### Blockade of the Corridor and the Threat of Famine

Amidst the harvest campaign, not a single ship has been able to pass through Ukraine's sea corridor. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha called Moscow's actions conscious economic and humanitarian terrorism. He drew a direct parallel to the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, where Iran attacked energy routes, emphasizing that Russia is now striking at global food markets.

The consequences of this blockade extend far beyond the region. Experts and diplomats are warning of the risk of a sharp rise in food prices. Millions of families in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America, who depend on Ukrainian grain supplies, are at risk.

### Response of the International Community

Ukraine has appealed to the international community for an urgent session of the UN Security Council, scheduled for July 27. Kyiv is calling on all states, especially those directly affected, to demand that Russia immediately cease attacks on freedom of navigation. Andrii Sybiha emphasized that no country has the right to starve the world, and only global diplomatic pressure can stop this terror.

### Economic Consequences for Business

The escalation of the conflict has already affected the operations of major logistics operators. One of the world's leading container carriers, Maersk, has decided to temporarily suspend service through the Black Sea grain port. This decision was a direct result of the intensification of attacks by the aggressor state and the increased risks for commercial shipping in the region.
