# First Strike by Sea Drones: US Launches Mass Attack on Iran

On the night of July 13, the escalation of the conflict in the Persian Gulf reached a new level. The United States launched another series of strikes against Iran, hitting dozens of strategic targets. However, the key innovation of this operation was the first-ever combat use of sea-based kamikaze drones.

This became known from an official statement by the US Central Command (CENTCOM), published on the social network X. The military department confirmed that the operation involved fighter jets, Navy ships, strike air drones, and for the first time — unmanned maritime vehicles.

### New Weaponry in Combat

The US command detailed the targets of the attack, stating that strikes were carried out against Iranian air defense systems, coastal radar stations, missile complexes, and small boats. The use of sea drones marked a technological breakthrough within this campaign, demonstrating the US readiness to apply the latest developments to neutralize threats.

A CENTCOM spokesperson explained that the necessity of the strike was to deprive Tehran of the ability to attack international vessels. The command emphasized that Iran does not control the Strait of Hormuz and that US forces are ready to ensure freedom of navigation for merchant ships, despite the 'unjustified aggression' from the Iranian side.

### Tehran's Response and Closure of the Strait

The Iranian side has already reported launching a retaliatory strike using missiles and drones. Tehran claims to have attacked targets in response to US actions. Tensions in the region reached a peak following events on the night of July 12, when Iran announced the complete closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

The reason for the closure was the violation of the route by several vessels. Specifically, Iranian forces attacked a container ship, stopping its movement. This triggered an immediate reaction from the US. Meanwhile, CENTCOM had previously stated that the strait remained open, contradicting Tehran's statement.

### Expectation of a Prolonged Conflict

The situation in the region remains extremely unstable. According to Axios, the White House is already preparing for a multi-day, and possibly multi-week, exchange of strikes between the US and Iran. The conflict surrounding the Strait of Hormuz threatens to escalate into a prolonged confrontation with serious consequences for the global economy and the security of sea routes.
