# Flamingo Revolution: How Albanians Tore Down the Fence of a Resort Linked to Trump's Son-in-Law

On the coast of the Adriatic Sea in Albania, a genuine conflict is brewing between the local population and a major international investor. Around 200 participants of the "Flamingo Revolution" movement took decisive action: they tore down the metal and barbed wire fences protecting the territory of the elite development.

This large-scale protest is directed against the construction of a luxury resort, in the implementation of which, according to media reports, a company linked to Jared Kushner — the son-in-law of former US President Donald Trump — is involved.

### The Battle for Land in Rrelle

The events are unfolding in the Vlora region, known for its unique natural landscapes, turtle nesting sites, and flamingo migration. It is precisely due to the threat to ecology and nature that the protest movement received its symbolic name. Residents of the village of Rrelle, located among pine forests and sandy beaches in the northwest of the country, claim that the project is being implemented on their confiscated land.

Protesters, waving Albanian flags and chanting slogans of "Revolution!", proceeded to dismantle the structures. Despite clashes with law enforcement officers during the action, the police did not hinder the actions of the residents, effectively allowing them to destroy the barrier structures.

### "They think they can take everything without blood"

Participants of the movement emphasize that their struggle will not cease until fair compensation is obtained. Zeke Nikolle Shullani, a 56-year-old landowner whose family has been participating in protests for several months, stated: "We are 200 families whose land was confiscated. The protests will not stop until the residents of the village of Rrelle receive compensation".

Another local resident, 60-year-old Nikolin Markpalaj, called what is happening in the country madness. He emphasized that investors refused to dialogue with local residents, ignoring their requests to discuss the situation. "Do they think they can take all this wealth without blood or anything else that might happen here?", the man noted with bitterness.

### Threat to EU Integration

The conflict goes beyond a local land dispute. The Albanian government granted the project "special investor status", which allowed the construction of a five-star resort to begin. However, experts and international observers point to serious risks.

The construction of the resort, linked to Kushner's name, threatens Albania's EU integration process. The project contradicts the environmental standards of the European Union. Brussels has already expressed its dissatisfaction with the situation and warned Tirana of the possible consequences of violating environmental standards within the framework of accession to the bloc.
