## 🎯 Key Points

- France tested the modified M51 ballistic missile for submarines
- The missile flew about 4,000 km over the Atlantic and landed in the northern part of the ocean
- President Emmanuel Macron watched the launch from a navy frigate
- The M51 program forms the backbone of France's maritime nuclear deterrence

The French Navy has successfully tested the latest modification of the M51 submarine-launched intercontinental ballistic missile, capable of carrying nuclear warheads. This test launch serves as a vital demonstration of the country's strategic nuclear capabilities amid modern geopolitical tensions.

### Details and Progress of the Test Launch

The test launch was carried out in French territorial waters. The upgraded missile covered a distance of about 4,000 kilometers over the Atlantic Ocean before successfully splashing down in the North Atlantic, hundreds of kilometers from any coastline. It is important to note that the missile did not carry a live warhead during this test, but all flight stages and onboard system operations were closely monitored by specialists.

### Personal Presence of the Nation's Leadership

French President Emmanuel Macron personally observed the historic launch. The head of state monitored the tests from aboard a French Navy frigate operating in the maneuver area. The president's presence underscores the strategic importance of the missile program for national security and the independence of the French state.

### Characteristics and Significance of the M51 Missile

Developed by ArianeGroup, the M51 missile is designed to arm strategic nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarines. Each such missile can carry from six to ten independently targetable thermonuclear warheads, with a maximum range of up to 10,000 kilometers. Adopted into service about a year ago, the third version of the missile marks a major modernization of France's maritime nuclear deterrence component.
