# FREYJA: How Ukraine and Europe are Creating a Unified 'Iron Dome' from Ukrainian Missiles and European Radars

A fundamentally new air defense architecture is taking shape in Europe, which could change the rules of the game in the continent's security sphere. The project is called FREYJA. Its essence lies in combining advanced European sensors and radar systems with cost-effective Ukrainian interceptor missiles developed by Fire Point.

Anatoliy Khrapchynsky, Director of Development at a defense enterprise and a reputable aviation expert, stated this in a comment to RBC-Ukraine. According to him, the creation of FREYJA is not just a weapons supply, but a global integration of Ukraine's defense resources with those of the European Union countries.

### From Local Complexes to a Unified Network

The expert emphasizes that FREYJA cannot be perceived as a classic anti-aircraft complex consisting of a familiar set: a launcher, a radar, and a command post. Unlike traditional systems like SAMP/T, which are limited by their physical components, FREYJA operates as a higher-level overlay.

The system integrates dozens of disparate European detection means into a single intelligent network. This allows a shift from passive attack repulsion to proactive defense. The platform is capable of predicting the threat trajectory in advance, instantly assessing the danger level, and proactively engaging the most effective interception means from the general network.

«In fact, such an approach allows creating a single pan-European dome like the Israeli 'Iron Dome' and completely rethinking sky protection on the continent», — notes Khrapchynsky.

### Solving the Deficit Problem

The key advantage of the project is the rational use of resources. Ukraine offers a financially accessible alternative to expensive foreign missiles, solving the critical problem of air defense means shortage. This allows European partners to increase defense capabilities without total import dependence.

The system is based on the FP-7.x interceptor missile, developed specifically for FREYJA. The ammunition's technical characteristics are impressive:

    - The body is made of modern composite materials.

    - The missile length is 7.25 meters.

    - Flight speed reaches 1500–2000 m/s.

    - Range — up to 200 km.

    - Warhead weight — up to 150 kg.

The FREYJA system is expected to begin full-scale operation by the end of 2026. This project demonstrates how Ukrainian technological solutions are becoming an integral part of the European defense doctrine.
