# Fuel Collapse: How Russia is Hiding a Massive Gasoline Shortage

Russian regions are gripped by a massive fuel crisis that is rapidly evolving into a systemic problem. Huge queues are forming at gas stations across the country, while fuel has completely disappeared from sale at many stations. The situation is exacerbated by Ukrainian drone strikes on oil refining infrastructure.

### Critical Situation in the Regions

The problem has become particularly acute in the Lipetsk region. In the city of Yelets, gasoline has vanished from every gas station. At the few stations that remain operational, particularly those belonging to Rosneft, kilometer-long traffic jams of cars have formed. Lipetsk Governor Igor Artamonov confirmed interruptions in the supply of certain fuel grades. In his address, he urged residents not to hoard gasoline, comparing the current panic to the rush to buy buckwheat.

In the Tver region, authorities were forced to take radical measures. Temporary restrictions on fuel sales to individuals were introduced at Surgutneftegas and Tatneft stations. This was done to preserve reserves for the operation of ambulances and public transport.

### Moscow and Crimea: Hidden Collapse

Fuel problems have reached the Russian capital as well. Against the backdrop of reports about the lack of gasoline in Moscow, major pro-government social media accounts attempted to launch an information campaign to refute these facts. As proof, they published a video by the well-known autoblogger Elena Lisovskaya, who claimed there were no queues.

However, attentive social media users quickly spotted the trick. The footage shows that almost all fuel pumps are blocked by cones, and zeros are flashing on the electronic displays instead of prices. This is undeniable evidence that the station is not operating and there is no fuel in the tanks.

The situation has also become critical in occupied Crimea. On June 21, fuel sales at gas stations were completely suspended for both individuals and legal entities. Fuel is now supplied exclusively to state security and life-support services. Alongside the fuel collapse, electricity was cut off on the peninsula, and ferry traffic was halted.

### Strict Limits and Attempts to Hide the Truth

Strict refueling limits have begun to be introduced across Russia. At Tatneft stations, sales of gasoline and diesel "to one person" have been restricted. For passenger cars, a limit of up to 30 liters per transaction has been set.

Analysts at the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) note that the gasoline shortage in Russia is worsening, but the Kremlin is trying to hide the true scale of the disaster and calm the population. Nevertheless, fuel problems and rising prices have already been recorded not only in border zones but also in major cities such as St. Petersburg, Voronezh, and Tula.
