On Monday, June 15, the "G7" (Group of Seven) summit will begin in France, where the presence of US President Donald Trump is expected. This event becomes a key moment for Ukraine and European leaders, who intend to use the meeting to address critically important issues related to support for Kyiv and pressure on Russia.

### Ukraine's Successes Amidst Challenges

Despite serious challenges facing Ukraine, the country is demonstrating significant successes. In particular, Ukrainian drones are effectively cutting Russia's supply lines, exhausting its army and economy. Furthermore, the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) have benefited from technological progress, allowing them for the first time since 2023 to recapture more territory than they have lost.

However, problems remain. The country is running out of missiles for Patriot air defense systems, and power outages are possible again in the summer. Against this backdrop, Kyiv is seeking additional support from Western allies to continue successful operations against Russia.

### Three Key Tasks for the G7 Summit

Ukraine and Europe intend to convince Donald Trump of three main things:

  - **Strengthening military support:** Kyiv is counting on the provision of additional air defense systems, including long-range strike weapons, before Russia's next offensive. The Ukrainian leader has already appealed to the US to allow the production of Patriot interceptors within the country, as well as to Germany with a proposal to provide dozens of interceptors from its stocks in exchange for those Kyiv will produce later.

  - **Financial assistance:** The European Union has already covered Ukraine's financial needs for the coming months with a loan of 90 billion euros. However, Kyiv is seeking at least another 20 billion euros to consolidate its successes on the battlefield.

  - **Sanctions pressure:** Ukraine continues to pressure the US and its allies to increase economic pressure on Moscow. In particular, the EU adopted its 20th package of sanctions against Russia but refrained from banning maritime transport of Russian oil tankers, hoping that the US will support these efforts at the G7 summit.

### Change in Trump's Position

Last year, Donald Trump sharply criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for refusing a deal and accused him of excessive zeal. However, the situation has changed: Ukraine's position has improved, and now European diplomats hope that the G7 summit will become an opportunity for Kyiv's supporters to clearly confirm their support, including military and financial aid.

As a diplomat from one of the largest EU countries noted: "Today, Europeans take on almost 100% of the aid to Ukraine, but for our G7 partners, particularly the US, it remains important to continue contributing — or, at the very least, not to weaken their support even further".

### Prospects for Negotiations

G7 leaders also intend to convince Trump to change his approach to negotiations with Russia regarding the war in Ukraine. Europe advocates that the current frontline should become the basis for future negotiations. At the same time, although a separate bilateral meeting between Trump and Zelenskyy is not scheduled, sources report that such a meeting may still be arranged.

The G7 summit becomes a unique opportunity for Ukraine and its allies to consolidate efforts and ensure long-term support for Kyiv in its confrontation with Russia.
