# Germany in flames: the country broke the historical heat record, showing 41.5 degrees

Germany is facing an unprecedented heatwave, which on Saturday, June 27, led to the establishment of a new national temperature record. According to preliminary data, the thermometer in the country has exceeded the 40-degree Celsius mark for the first time in history.

### Historical maximum in Drechwitz

The anomalous temperature increase was recorded at the meteorological station in the village of Drechwitz. The instrument showed 41.5 degrees Celsius — the highest figure in the entire history of observations in the FRG. Currently, specialists from the German Meteorological Service (DWD) are conducting a thorough verification of these data. The official confirmation of the record is planned to be announced on June 29.

The situation is developing rapidly: the previous temperature maximum did not even last a day. Now the south-western and eastern regions of Germany are effectively competing for the title of the hottest area of the country, where extreme values are maintained throughout the daylight hours.

### Alarming forecasts and risks

Meteorologists are working in an enhanced mode, constantly checking the readings of instruments with calculated models. DWD forecasts look alarming: there is a probability that the temperature may cross the psychologically important threshold of 42 degrees.

Experts are calling on the population to exercise maximum caution. Extreme conditions pose a direct threat to human health, especially the elderly and chronically ill, and also create a serious load on energy and transport infrastructure.

### Europe in the epicenter of the anomaly

Germany is not the only country suffering from anomalies. May in Europe entered history as one of the hottest. National records were updated in the United Kingdom, France, Ireland and Portugal.

The global context of the situation is clarified by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). Earlier, there was a high probability of the development of the El Niño phenomenon in the coming months. According to climatologists, this atmospheric phenomenon can increase the risks of extreme weather disasters around the world, including heatwaves, prolonged droughts and intense precipitation.
