### Catalan club bolsters attack with a unique player

Spanish Girona has officially announced the signing of Ukrainian striker Alexander Pishchur. The 21-year-old forward, who previously played for Hungarian side Diósgyőr, has become the newest player for the Catalan club. The deal was confirmed on the team's official website, with the contract running until the summer of 2031.

The standout feature of the new acquisition is his exceptional height — 2.04 meters. Pishchur, a product of the Chernihiv-based Desna academy, possesses a powerful physique that allows him to dominate in the air and create problems for opposing defenders in the box. His aerial ability is considered one of his key assets.

### From Desna to Spain

Alexander's professional career began in his hometown of Chernihiv, but his debut at the senior level took place in the MFA Mukachevo academy. Subsequently, the forward moved to Hungary, where he played for several clubs: Kisvárda, Puskás Akadémia, and Diósgyőr. In July 2025, he transferred to Diósgyőr for €150,000.

In the 2025/26 season, Pishchur made 36 appearances for the club, scoring 5 goals and providing 2 assists. The portal Transfermarkt values his market price at €350,000. However, the real breakthrough for the player came at the U-20 World Cup in Chile. There, he attracted the attention of European scouts by scoring a spectacular header against South Korea.

### A new chapter in Girona's history

Alexander Pishchur has become the fourth Ukrainian in Girona's structure. The team already features midfielder Viktor Tsygankov, striker Vladyslav Vanat, and goalkeeper Vladyslav Krapivtsov. Notably, Pishchur is well-acquainted with Krapivtsov from their joint appearances for the Ukraine youth national team.

However, the newcomer must integrate into a squad experiencing a serious crisis. At the end of the 2025/26 season, Girona finished 19th in La Liga and was relegated to the second division. Immediately after this, long-time head coach Michel Sanchez left the team, so Pishchur will have to prove his effectiveness under the guidance of a new coach.

Furthermore, the future of other Ukrainian leaders of the club remains uncertain: there is a high probability that Tsygankov and Vanat will leave Girona this summer. Nevertheless, Pishchur's transfer looks like a strategic investment in the team's future, calculated for the long term.
