A scandal has erupted at the Polish-Ukrainian border involving an attempt to smuggle precious metals. A Ukrainian citizen traveling to Poland tried to conceal a significant amount of gold from customs authorities. However, modern technology prevented the deception from succeeding.

### How the scanner revealed the secret

The events unfolded at the Krosno border crossing. The woman was undergoing standard customs procedures, but officers from the Podkarpackie Customs and Tax Office decided to conduct an additional check using a specialized scanner. The device instantly detected the presence of undeclared precious metal.

It turned out that the Ukrainian citizen had hidden gold bars in pouches directly under her clothing. Despite attempts to conceal the valuable cargo, law enforcement officers discovered three kilograms of gold.

### Million-dollar cargo and fine

The value of the seized metal is estimated at approximately $397,000 USD. The gold was seized for further investigation by the Podkarpackie Customs and Tax Office in Przemyśl.

As a security measure for a potential fine, law enforcement officers confiscated 23,400 euros from the suspect. The case has been transferred to the court to consider the circumstances of the violation of border crossing rules.

### Rules for entering the EU

Polish customs officers remind that declaration rules are strict. Any person entering or leaving the European Union is obliged to inform customs authorities about the transport of valuables if their total value equals or exceeds 10,000 euros.

This rule applies not only to cash but also to securities, checks, promissory notes, and gold bars. Violation of these norms entails serious financial consequences and administrative liability.
