Rowling's books. Three new performers have joined the project, taking on the roles of the protagonist's parents and one of the Weasley family members. The presentation of the material is built around the fact that some of these characters previously did not appear in the film version of the saga, making the series adaptation a noticeable expansion of the familiar canon for viewers. ### Harry's Parents: Jasper Talbot and Anna Chinn The role of James Potter, the protagonist's father, will be played by Jasper Talbot, while the image of Lily Potter went to Anna Chinn. In the original film saga, these characters were shown fragmentarily — primarily in memories, photographs, and magical visions, whereas in the series, their presence promises to be more expanded. Both actors will appear as early as the first season, titled 'Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone'. ### A Book Character Who Was Not in the Movies Special attention is deserved by the debut in the series of a character who was absent from the film adaptations: Ron's older brother, Charlie Weasley, who works with dragons. His role will be embodied by Harry Gilby. The inclusion of this figure in the first season confirms the creators' intention to rely on the book material more broadly than was done in the movies and to return details to the plot that previously remained behind the scenes. ### Main Cast of the First Season The title role of Harry Potter is played by Dominic McLaughlin, with his friends Hermione and Ron portrayed by Arabella Stanton and Alastair Stout. Among the adult characters: John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, and Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid. Thus, the first season's cast covers both key mentors and the central children's trio of heroes. ### Premier and Season Format The premiere of the first season is scheduled for Christmas — December 25 on HBO. The story focuses on the first book: after receiving a letter from Hogwarts, Harry discovers the world of magic, makes friends, and learns about the dangers lurking behind the school walls. According to the publication, the season will feature eight episodes, which is noticeably more screen time than the 2001 film and allows for the inclusion of scenes and details not previously shown on film. ### Second Season Already in Production Filming for the continuation, covering the events of the book 'Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets', is already underway at Leavesden Studios near London. Joining the cast for the second season are Kit Harington as Gilderoy Lockhart, Rafe Spall as Arthur Weasley, Lenny Rush as Dobby, Billy Barratt as Tom Riddle, and Bonnie Hill as Ginny Ginny... wait, Ginny Weasley. Concurrently, it became known that J.K. Rowling will release two new books about characters from the 'Harry Potter' universe, expanding the potential material for future seasons. ## Fact-Check & Sources - [Сериал о Гарри Поттере получил новых актеров: кто сыграет Джеймса и Лили](https://wave.rbc.ua/ukr/culture/serial-garri-pottera-otrimav-novih-aktoriv-1793119940.html) - Primary source: casting of Talbot, Chinn, Gilby; first season lineup; December 25 premiere; second season casting. - [В актерском составе сериала о Гарри Поттере снова замена: кого сыграет звезда "Игры престолов"](https://www.obozrevatel.com/kino-oboz/v-akterskom-sostave-seriala-o-garri-pottere-snova-zamena-kogo-syigraet-zvezda-igryi-prestolov.htm) - Confirms Kit Harington joining the HBO project. - [HBO показал первый трейлер сериала о "Гарри Поттере": видео о дата премьеры](https://www.unian.net/lite/kino/garri-potter-hbo-pokazal-pervyy-treyler-seriala-video-i-data-premery-13488297.html) - Confirms the December 25 premiere date, eight episodes for the first season, and main roles. - [HBO выбрала актеров на роли Артура Уизли, Плаксы Миртл и Колина Криви](https://news.mail.ru/society/72371438/) - Confirms the approval of the second-season cast members. ## FAQ ### Who will play Harry Potter's parents in the HBO series?
