# Heat and thunderstorms: forecasters warn of sharp weather contrast in Ukraine on July 2

On July 2, Ukraine is expected to experience a sharp division in weather across regions. While tropical heat will cover most of the country, western regions will face the arrival of an active atmospheric front, bringing rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds.

According to the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, conditions in most regions will be dictated by a field of slightly elevated pressure and dry, scorching air of tropical origin. This means that for most Ukrainians, the day will pass without precipitation under the scorching sun.

### Tropical heat in the south and center

In the central and southern regions of the country, forecasters predict the continuation of extremely high temperatures. In some areas, thermometer readings will rise to 35–37°C. Such weather is a continuation of the hot trend observed at the end of June, when temperature maximums were already being updated in various regions.

In Kyiv and the Kyiv region, slight cloudiness and no precipitation are expected. The air temperature in the capital will correspond to the general trend for central regions, remaining at a high level.

### Storm warning for the West

A completely different picture is expected in the western regions. An active atmospheric front from Western Europe will arrive there, creating unstable weather. In these regions, the air temperature will be lower — in the range of 26–31°C, which will provide some relief from the heat.

Forecasters warn of a serious threat of extreme weather phenomena in the western part of the country:

- Variable cloudiness and moderate rain are expected, which will locally intensify to heavy rain during the day.

- Thunderstorms and wind gusts with speeds of 15–20 m/s are likely.

- Hail is possible in some areas.

The wind across the country will blow predominantly from the southeast at 5–10 m/s, but in the western regions, it will shift to the northwest.

### Forecast for the near future

Despite the current heat, the wave of record temperatures in Ukraine is gradually coming to an end. Experts have already shared positive forecasts: soon the air temperature may return to more comfortable values, which will be a pleasant surprise for residents after several weeks of heat.
