Western Europe is expected to face extreme heat in the coming days. According to the latest forecasts by meteorologists, air temperatures in several regions may rise to critical levels of 45 degrees Celsius. A powerful heatwave will begin to intensify by the end of this week, placing a serious strain on the population and infrastructure of the continent.

### Maps of Temperature Records

The epicenter of the anomaly will be the southern regions of the Iberian Peninsula and France. From Monday to Wednesday, meteorologists expect that thermometers in Spain, Portugal, and France will show readings between 43 and 45 degrees. The peak of the heat is forecast for the Spanish region of Andalusia, where figures may approach historical maximums for June.

Significant exceedance of the climate norm is also expected in the capitals. In Madrid and Paris, temperatures will approach 40 degrees. In Rome, Vienna, and Budapest, the mercury will rise above the 35-degree mark. Even the southern regions of the United Kingdom, including London, will fall under the heatwave.

### The Mechanism of the "Heat Dome"

Experts attribute such a sharp temperature spike to the phenomenon of a "heat dome." It is formed under the influence of a powerful high-pressure area, which, like a lid, traps hot air over vast territories. As a result, heat accumulates, cloud cover dissipates, and temperatures continue to rise for several days or even weeks.

In some places, the temperature will be approximately 20 degrees higher than the average for this time of year. Meteorological models show that certain areas of Spain and France may approach the highest June temperatures in recorded history.

### Duration and Consequences

Preliminary estimates suggest that in Mediterranean countries, the heatwave could last until the end of June, and in some areas, even longer. Experts note that final figures may still be refined, but the forecast already indicates a very strong heatwave in the western part of the continent.

This anomaly fits into the general picture of climate change. It was previously reported that the summer of 2026 in Europe could be accompanied not only by extreme heat but also by heavy rains and water resource issues. Experts warn that weather contrasts this season may intensify. The previous May 2026 has already entered the list of the warmest on record in several regions, where meteorologists recorded unusually high temperatures for spring.
