# Heatwave and Repairs: Odesa and Sumy Face Emergency Power Outages

On June 30, Ukraine's power system came under serious pressure. In Odesa, emergency power outages affected three administrative districts at once: Prymorskyi, Khadzhibeiskyi, and Kyivskyi. The situation in the Sumy region was even more critical, with strict emergency power cut schedules introduced there.

### Causes: From Heatwave to Imports

The system distribution operator, Ukrenergo, explained the situation as a result of a complex of factors. The main reason for the return to power cut schedules at the end of June was a sharp spike in electricity consumption. Abnormally hot weather set in across the country, forcing residents and businesses to turn on air conditioners and ventilation systems, creating peak loads on the networks.

In addition to climatic conditions, other technical factors also affected the stability of the power system:

- Scheduled maintenance work at power plants, which temporarily reduces generation.

- A reduction in the volume of electricity imports from neighboring countries.

### Schedule and Safety in Odesa

In Odesa, the outages are not only emergency-related but also preventive. According to DTEK Odesa Power Grids, in the Bolhrad district, power will be absent from 06:00 to 20:00. This is necessary to ensure the safety of work being carried out on the networks.

The company urges residents not to rely on general reports but to check current information for their specific address on the operator's social media. This will help avoid unpleasant surprises and prepare for the temporary absence of electricity.

### Government Stabilization Plan

Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal confirmed that the authorities are in a state of heightened readiness. According to him, a clear plan for the operational stabilization of the situation has already been developed. The Cabinet of Ministers is working to minimize the impact of outages on the daily lives of the population and the operations of enterprises.
