# Heatwave in Kyiv: Passengers Demand Air Conditioning in Buses and a Rapid Response System

A public outcry is brewing in Kyiv regarding the operation of city transport during anomalous heat. Residents of the capital have appealed to the authorities, demanding that drivers be required to turn on air conditioners in bus and trolleybus cabins when the air temperature reaches +22°C and above.

The initiative, posted on the website of the Kyiv City State Administration (Kyiv City Council), has already gathered hundreds of votes of support. The authors of the petition point to a glaring problem: despite the fact that a significant part of the "Kyivpasezh" fleet is technically equipped with cooling systems, passengers continue to suffer from stifling heat. According to them, drivers often ignore the need to turn on the climate control, citing equipment breakdowns, even if the equipment is in working order.

### Ineffectiveness of the current complaint system

A key point of the Kyiv residents' demand is not only driver discipline but also a review of the feedback mechanism. Currently, a single number "1551" is used to file complaints. However, the initiative group notes that this system works extremely slowly: the consideration of one appeal can be delayed for weeks. In conditions where it is a matter of passenger comfort and health at a specific moment, such deadlines make the response meaningless.

A new rapid response system is proposed to be introduced, which will allow the situation to be corrected promptly — directly during the trip or immediately after it.

### Background of anomalous heat

The relevance of the issue has intensified against the backdrop of weather conditions. At the end of June, a powerful wave of heat swept over Ukraine, which has already managed to update temperature maximums in many regions. In some locations, the thermometer columns showed more than +36°C. Under such conditions, the lack of air conditioning in public transport turns a trip into a trial, especially for vulnerable categories of citizens.

The petition continues to gain momentum, and attention to the problem from municipal services and city authorities is a matter of time.
