A tragedy has unfolded in Greece during the fight against massive wildfires. Two firefighting helicopters collided in the sky over the Attica region, resulting in the deaths of two crew members. Official confirmation of the incident came from the country's fire service.

### Details of the air disaster and casualties

The collision occurred in the Psata area, northwest of Athens. The deceased pilots were citizens of Greece and Denmark. The crew of the second helicopter, consisting of a Greek and a British citizen, miraculously survived the incident. Currently, law enforcement and investigative agencies are conducting a thorough investigation to determine the exact causes of the aircraft collision.

### Devastating consequences of the fires

The air disaster occurred against the backdrop of a major wildfire raging in the region. The fire has already destroyed more than 100 residential homes. The situation remains critical not only in Attica but also in other areas. Due to the rapid spread of the fire, emergency evacuations were carried out in several settlements on the tourist island of Cephalonia.

### Causes of the fire and arrests

According to local media, the fire, which initially started in the Boeotia region, moved into Attica. The probable cause of the fire was sparks from private power lines scattered by strong winds. Law enforcement agencies have already detained two Greek citizens on suspicion of negligence. The search for a third suspect is ongoing.

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis commented on the situation, noting that in some cases, natural forces and extreme weather conditions exceed human capabilities. Nevertheless, all available forces and means have been mobilized to fight the fire.

### Crisis in Europe: from fires to drought

Greece is not the only country facing the challenges of nature. In neighboring France, in the Var department, a major wildfire, which changed direction due to the wind, has engulfed hard-to-reach forest areas. Near the city of Carcassonne, a fire broke out due to a burning car. This led to the temporary closure of the highway and the evacuation of the nearby zoo.

In central Spain, fires covering tens of thousands of hectares have been largely brought under control, although in some areas the flames have intensified again. The situation is exacerbated by the consequences of the drought, which has led to a sharp drop in river water levels.

In Hungary, due to record low water levels in the Danube, the country's only nuclear power plant was forced to suspend operations for the first time in more than 40 years. A similar problem affected Serbia, where the water level in the Danube dropped to its lowest level since 1985, forcing the country's largest hydroelectric power plant to significantly reduce its output.
