For many Ukrainians, the pension amount seems like a fixed figure, depending solely on past work experience and salary size. However, legislation provides a number of mechanisms that allow for a significant increase in monthly income. Some pensioners receive additional payments, the existence of which they are not even aware of.

Experts and representatives of the Pension Fund highlight several categories of supplements that can increase pension benefits by an amount ranging from a few hundred to several thousand hryvnias.

### Supplement for Age and Seniority

One of the most common, but not always known facts, is the possibility of receiving a monthly age-related compensatory supplement. This payment is assigned automatically when the pensioner reaches a certain age, however, it is valid only on the condition that the total pension amount does not exceed the threshold established by the government.

The second important factor is "extra" seniority. If a citizen has more years of work than required for pension assignment, they have the right to a supplement for each additional year. The amount of this supplement is tied to the subsistence minimum for persons who have lost their ability to work. This means that when social standards are reviewed, the payment amount automatically increases. The longer a person worked officially, the more noticeable this increase will be.

### Support for Single Persons and Honorary Donors

There are special categories of citizens who are entitled to targeted support. In particular, single pensioners may be eligible for a special monthly supplement. Unlike age-related supplements, to receive it, one must personally apply to the Pension Fund with the relevant documents.

A separate category of beneficiaries are citizens holding the title of "Honorary Donor of Ukraine". They are entitled to a monthly pension increase of 10% of the subsistence minimum per person. Since the amount is tied to the social standard, it is periodically reviewed and indexed.

### Merits to the State and Work After Retirement

Citizens who have special merits to the state receive special supplements. The amount of such payments depends on the specific category determined by legislation and can range from a few hundred to several thousand hryvnias.

Significant potential for increasing income lies in continuing professional activity. If a person continues to work officially after retiring, their pension may be recalculated after acquiring the necessary insurance seniority. As a result, the monthly payment may increase by several hundred hryvnias, and in some cases—significantly more. For many, this supplement becomes the most noticeable.

### How to Apply for Payments and Check Rights

It is important to understand that not all supplements are assigned automatically. If a pensioner has the right to a certain supplement, but it is not being accrued, it is necessary to proactively contact a Pension Fund service center or check the information in the personal account.

Furthermore, legislation allows receiving certain supplements simultaneously if a person meets the requirements of several programs. In such a case, the total pension payment may increase by several thousand hryvnias.

We recall that it was previously reported about a supplement of almost 1300 hryvnias for military pensioners who do not work and support an incapacitated family member. Also relevant is information regarding the inclusion of university education in insurance seniority: full-time education before January 1, 2004, may be taken into account even without a diploma, provided there is documentary confirmation.
