On the border between Russia and North Korea, crossing the Tumen River, lies an object that could radically alter logistics between the two countries. The first-ever road bridge between the Russian Federation and North Korea is in the final stages of construction. Officially, the project is positioned as a tool for developing trade and tourism; however, investigations point to the existence of hidden military objectives.

### Technical Specifications and Official Statements

Construction of the bridge is taking place at the mouth of the Tumen River. The engineering structure is approximately one kilometer long and seven meters wide. Once operational, it will be equipped with two lanes of traffic. The bridge will become a key link in a transport crossing with a total length of 4.7 km, which includes access roads on both sides of the border.

Representatives of Moscow and Pyongyang state that the infrastructure project is intended to stimulate economic ties. In the public sphere, the emphasis is placed on simplifying trade operations and developing tourist flows between the two states.

### The Version of a Hidden Military Corridor

Despite official statements, the Ukrainian human rights organization Truth Hounds, whose investigation is cited by The Guardian, claims that the true purpose of the construction is different. According to experts, the bridge is being created to form a hidden military logistics corridor.

The head of the investigation, Nazar Migun, explains the logic of choosing road transport over rail. The key factor is the difficulty of monitoring the road network via satellite surveillance. Unlike railways, which have a limited number of nodes and are easily tracked, the road network of Russia and North Korea is far more extensive.

### Difficulties of Satellite Monitoring

Experts highlight several reasons why cargo transport across the bridge is harder to track:

- **Similarity of equipment:** On satellite images, trucks are practically indistinguishable from one another, whereas the type of railway wagon can reveal much about the nature of the cargo.

- **Open transport:** Certain categories of goods are transported in open railway wagons, allowing for easy identification of their purpose.

- **Loading flexibility:** Trucks can be loaded anywhere without being tied to stationary nodes, making it difficult to pinpoint departure and arrival points.

- **Speed of operations:** Loading and unloading road transport takes less time than handling wagons, which remain in the line of sight of intelligence for longer periods.

### Strategic Consequences for the Region

According to Migun, this is about creating strategic infrastructure. The bridge could be used to transfer North Korean military personnel, construction brigades, and officials to Russia. In the reverse direction, Russian technologies and resources could move through this corridor.

For Ukraine, the emergence of such a logistics channel becomes a serious challenge against the backdrop of the ongoing war. Previously, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned that Russia was preparing the groundwork for expanding mobilization. The Kremlin, in turn, responded to the Ukrainian leader's statements about the possible arrival of 30,000 soldiers from North Korea. Experts believe that a new wave of mobilization in Russia could be truly massive, and the new bridge will become an important element in this system.
