# Hryvnia vs Dollar: How Exchange Rates Changed in Ukrainian Banks and What to Expect Next Week

The Ukrainian currency market from July 13 to 17 demonstrated high volatility. After a sharp spike in the dollar's value mid-week, the hryvnia began to gradually regain its position. Let's look at how much the currency cost in popular banks and what experts are forecasting for the coming week.

### Price Dynamics in Popular Banks

For those who planned to buy currency at the beginning of the week, the situation changed not radically, but noticeably. If we compare the prices for buying 100 US dollars on Monday (July 13) and Friday (July 17), we see the following picture:

    - **Monobank:** The cost increased from 4,469 UAH to 4,480 UAH. The difference was 11 hryvnias.

    - **Oschadbank (mobile app):** Over the week, the rate increased by 20 hryvnias — from 4,465 UAH to 4,485 UAH.

    - **PrivatBank (cash desks):** In the bank's cash desks, 100 dollars became 15 hryvnias more expensive, rising from 4,470 UAH to 4,485 UAH.

However, not all indicators showed growth. PrivatBank's card rate remained unchanged throughout the week, stabilizing at 4,484 UAH for 100 dollars. In PUMB, the cash desk price changed from 4,490 UAH on Monday to 4,500 UAH on Friday, which is 10 hryvnias more expensive.

### Weekly Scenario: From Spike to Correction

The week started relatively calmly: in most banks, the dollar fluctuated in the range of 44.65–44.90 UAH. However, on Tuesday and Wednesday, the situation changed radically. The currency surged upwards, and almost all financial institutions raised their rates by 20–30 kopecks. In some cases, the price crossed the psychologically important mark of 45 hryvnias.

Thursday and Friday brought a certain "correction" to the market. Banks began lowering quotes, trying to compensate for part of the previous rise. Despite the dollar becoming slightly cheaper compared to Wednesday's peak values, it still holds above Monday's figures.

### Expert Opinion and Forecast

Taras Lesovoy, Director of the Financial Markets and Investment Activities Department at Globus Bank, noted in a comment to RBC-Ukraine that the current stability in the currency market indicates that the system knows how to cope with risks, rather than that there are no risks at all. This is the situation that developed by the end of July.

For the period from July 20 to 26, the banker expects rates to fluctuate within certain corridors. He emphasizes that this does not mean the rate will remain unchanged. These are the limits within which the currency cost can fluctuate without danger to market equilibrium.
