Hungary is entering an epochal stage of transformation aimed at a complete change of the state paradigm. The country's Prime Minister, Péter Madjar, has officially announced the launch of a large-scale reform that provides for the termination of the powers of the current president and the liquidation of institutions formed by the previous regime. The government has already submitted a proposal to parliament to adopt the 17th amendment to the Fundamental Law.

### Dismantling the "Orbán system"

According to the head of the government, the decision to reform was made after broad public consultations, in which tens of thousands of citizens participated. Madjar stated that the goal of the changes is to free Hungary from a system that, in his opinion, has held the state in captivity for decades, plundered the nation, and occupied state institutions.

The reform package includes 12 key points aimed at revising the constitutional structure of the country. Among the most significant changes:

    - Abolition of the budget veto right of the Fiscal Council.

    - Narrowing the scope of cardinal laws requiring a qualified two-thirds majority of votes.

    - Liquidation of the independent Parliamentary Guard.

    - Renunciation of the naming of districts to avoid creating "modern feudalism".

### Resignation of the president and new elections

The most radical point of the amendment was the demand for the immediate termination of the mandate of the current President of Hungary, Tamás Sulyok. Péter Madjar accused the head of state of supporting the system of the former Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, which, according to the new government, led to the destruction of the rule of law.

"The restoration of Hungary cannot begin with the same person who remained the most important state figure contributing to the collapse of the republic. He let our country down when the Orbán government occupied institutions and scattered state property," the Prime Minister emphasized.

Parliament plans to elect a new president already this summer. His term of office will be up to five years, which will allow the completion of the current constitutional process. However, this is only the first step: in the autumn of 2026, the government intends to start the joint development of a completely new constitution of the country with citizens.

### Elite purge and media reform

Alongside constitutional changes, the new authorities are conducting a personnel purge in law enforcement and media structures. A financial scandal is brewing in the country, which could lead to the resignation of the Prosecutor General Gábor Balint Nagy. His dismissal is linked to the resonant case of the "Oschadbank" cashiers. Madjar noted that officials appointed during the times of Orbán will soon leave their posts.

Significant attention is also paid to the transformation of the media space. The "Tisza" party has submitted a bill to parliament on a large-scale reform of public media. The goal of the initiative is to eliminate political influence and ensure the independence of the state press. Media reform became one of the main election promises of Madjar, who in April removed Viktor Orbán from power.
