# IAEA Board Vote: Iran Urged to Report on Uranium Amid Escalation

The Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has adopted a new resolution demanding that Iran immediately provide a report on its uranium stockpiles. The decision was made against the backdrop of a sharp escalation in the region following a series of military clashes.

### Disagreements in the Board of Governors

The resolution, initiated by Western countries, garnered support from 21 of the 35 member states of the Board. The co-sponsors of the document were the United States, the United Kingdom, France, and Germany. The main message of the document is a demand for full transparency from Tehran and the provision of unimpeded access for inspectors to nuclear facilities.

However, unity within the Board proved incomplete. Russia, China, and Niger voted against the resolution. Another 10 states chose to abstain, indicating a deep divide within the international community regarding methods of pressuring Iran.

In a joint statement by the four initiating countries and the IAEA leadership, it was emphasized that Iran's actions cause "urgent concern" and threaten the integrity of the global nuclear safeguards regime.

### Military Context and Threats

The vote took place just hours before the US and Iran exchanged powerful strikes. The conflict was triggered by a statement from Donald Trump regarding a downed American Apache helicopter in the Strait of Hormuz. A reminder of the high lethality of the situation are the events of last June, when Israeli and US aviation attacked Iranian uranium enrichment plants. Despite serious damage to the facilities, the IAEA is convinced that most of the dangerous material survived and may have been moved.

According to US data, Tehran currently may possess a stockpile of 440.9 kg of uranium enriched to 60%. Experts estimate that this amount is sufficient to create 10 nuclear warheads. Only one technological step remains to reach the weapons-grade level of 90%. Inspectors are demanding immediate access to fuel storage sites, assuming that the main stockpiles are located at the nuclear complex in Isfahan.

### Iran's Position and Grossi's Concerns

The Iranian side categorically rejects the accusations. Tehran's Ambassador to the IAEA, Reza Najafi, called the resolution's demands "excessive" and accused the Board of Governors of attempting to whitewash US actions. According to him, the document ignores the root causes of the crisis, focusing only on the consequences. Earlier, Tehran warned that in response to such steps, it might cease cooperation with the agency.

IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi expressed concern that Tehran might deceive Donald Trump if a thorough inspection is not conducted. "Without verification, any deal is not a deal. It is an illusion of a deal or a promise whose fulfillment is unknown," Grossi explained. Earlier, Trump had stated his intention to transport all "nuclear dust" to the US using excavators, however, the implementation of such plans is impossible without verification of stockpiles.
