An incident that has caused widespread public outcry occurred in the city of Drohobych in the Lviv region. At night, near a memorial dedicated to the victims of the Nazi occupation, an unknown man intentionally damaged a sculpture.

According to RBC-Ukraine, citing the regional police, law enforcement officials learned of the incident thanks to social media monitoring. A video appeared online capturing the moment of damage to the "Victims of the German Occupation 1941–1944" memorial, located on Kovalska Street. Prompt response allowed for the quick identification of the scene of the incident.

### Details of the incident

According to data from the local Telegram channel "DROHOBYCH LIVE News," the crime was committed at the so-called "Wall of Tears." The recording shows a man pushing a metal sculpture of a Mother with his hands, causing it to fall to the ground. This monument is installed at the site where the Nazis carried out death sentences against members of the Ukrainian national liberation movement and the city's peaceful residents.

The police have already identified the offender. Comprehensive operational measures to locate and detain him are currently underway.

### Criminal proceedings

Regarding the desecration of the monument, investigators have opened criminal proceedings under Part 3 of Article 297 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — desecration of a grave or other burial place. Pre-trial investigation is ongoing.

### Context of the situation

The incident in Drohobych is not an isolated case. Earlier, in May, in Lviv, law enforcement officers detained three suspects in the theft of a memorial plaque to the first President of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria, Dzhokhar Dudayev. The plaque was dismantled from the facade of a building in the city center less than two weeks after its installation.
