# Iran — an accomplice to the war: Ukraine rejects Tehran's accusations and prepares a response at the UN

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybyga firmly responded to Iran's accusations against Kyiv. In a statement published on the social network X, the head of Ukrainian diplomacy called Tehran a direct accomplice to Russian aggression and rejected any attempts by the Iranian regime to portray itself as a victim.

### Direct accusation of complicity

Sybyga emphasized that threats from Iran are unjustified and baseless. According to the minister, the regime in Tehran has been fueling Russia's war against Ukraine for over two years by supplying weapons that kill Ukrainians. Consequently, Kyiv believes Iran has no moral right to demand protection or complain about its losses.

The diplomat also criticized Tehran's attempts to justify its threats by citing the UN Charter, calling these arguments absurd. Sybyga pointed out that such statements by Iran are intended to distract the international community from the real threats created by Russia.

### Focus on the Black Sea and the UN Security Council

A key point in the Ukrainian minister's statement was the issue of maritime transport security. Sybyga noted that it is Russia's terrorism against civilian shipping in the Black Sea, which threatens global food security, that will be the main topic of the upcoming emergency session of the UN Security Council, scheduled for July 27.

"We are waiting for a decisive reaction from the international community," declared the head of the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, emphasizing the need for a global response to Moscow's actions.

### Conflict context: Caspian Sea

The escalation of rhetoric occurred against the backdrop of an incident in the Caspian Sea. On July 26, the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs publicly accused Ukraine of attacking a commercial vessel, stating that one sailor died and another was injured. However, the Ukrainian side refutes the version that the target was civilian.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported on the same day about "very good results" from long-range strikes by the Ukrainian Defense Forces in the region. According to him, a vessel used to transport military cargo to Russia was hit. Later, Ukraine's Ambassador to Israel, Yevhen Korniychuk, confirmed the details of the operation and warned Iran of the possibility of repeated strikes against military targets.
