# Iran and the US: Illusion of a Breakthrough or a Real Chance for a Deal of the Century?

In the diplomatic corridor where the interests of Tehran, Washington, and Doha intertwine, a tense game is unfolding. Negotiations between Iran and the US, mediated by Qatar, have reached a new stage, but contrary to the expectations of optimists, the final chord has not yet been played. The official spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Esmaeil Baghaei, made it clear: there is progress, but we are still far from signing a historic document.

### Thin Ice of Diplomacy

The parties have indeed made progress in discussing a number of parameters, however, it is premature to talk about an imminent breakthrough. Key disagreements remain unresolved, creating an effect of "thin ice" on which both sides are forced to walk with extreme caution. Special attention is paid to the security of the Strait of Hormuz — a strategic artery of the world economy. The US insists on guarantees of safe navigation, while Tehran views this issue in the context of broader regional agreements.

### Nuclear Issue: The Stumbling Block

The central knot that cannot yet be untied remains Iran's nuclear program. Washington demands strict control over stocks of highly enriched uranium and measures that exclude the possibility of creating a bomb. In response, Tehran states that the nuclear issue cannot be isolated and must be resolved within the framework of a comprehensive deal, including the lifting of sanctions.

### Economy vs. Politics

Markets have already reacted to rumors of a possible rapprochement of positions: oil prices have plummeted by more than 4%, reaching a two-week low. Investors are hoping for stabilization, but the reality is that the energy sector remains in a zone of turbulence. The question of unblocking frozen Iranian assets also remains open, which is critically important for Iran's economy.

### Discrepancies in Versions

The situation is exacerbated by contradictory statements. In the administration of Donald Trump, it is claimed that Iran allegedly agreed to the disposal of uranium stocks. However, Tehran categorically refutes this, stating that such issues were not within the scope of previous agreements. For now, the outcome of the negotiations remains hazy, and the world watches as two superpowers try to find a compromise in conditions of high geopolitical tension.
