# Iran halts strikes on Israel but issues a tough ultimatum: what's next?

The situation in the Middle East has reached a critical point once again. On Monday, June 8, Iran officially announced the cessation of its military operation against Israel. However, this decision did not signal a de-escalation: Tehran simultaneously issued a stern ultimatum, threatening even more massive retaliatory measures should Israel continue military operations in southern Lebanon or launch new attacks against Iranian territory.

### Chronology of escalation: from missile strikes to retaliatory actions

The conflict intensified late in the evening on June 7, when Iran carried out at least three waves of ballistic missile launches against Israel. This marked the first such attack since April. According to sources, the Israeli air defense system intercepted about ten missiles. Currently, there have been no official reports of casualties resulting from direct hits.

Despite calls from US President Donald Trump for Israel to refrain from an immediate response — arguing that negotiations with Iran are, in his view, in the final stages — Tel Aviv did not agree with this position. On the morning of June 8, Israeli forces struck missile launchers and military facilities in western and central regions of Iran.

### Tehran's ultimatum: threat of escalation

The Iranian military command announced the cessation of operations but immediately warned: if Israel continues its actions in southern Lebanon or carries out new attacks, Iran will apply "stricter and more crushing measures than before." Thus, the formal ceasefire does not mean the end of the conflict — it merely creates a temporary lull, which could be followed by a new wave of violence.

In Tel Aviv, it was openly stated that they are prepared for military operations that could last at least several days. Furthermore, Israeli leadership has not ruled out further escalation up to the full resumption of a large-scale conflict.

### Economic consequences: oil reacts to tension

Against the backdrop of the new flare-up, the situation on global markets also worsened. Oil prices surged: during Asian trading, Brent rose by 3.8% to $96.64 per barrel, while WTI increased by 4.6% to $94.68. This indicates that investors fear the expansion of the conflict, which could disrupt hydrocarbon supplies from the region.

The situation remains extremely tense. The halt of Iranian strikes is not the end of the story, but merely a pause before a possible new round of escalation. The world is closely watching the development of events, understanding that any wrong move could lead to a full-scale war.
