# Kupiansk direction: Russian bloggers on advances, analysts on lack of evidence, and Ukrainian counterattacks

The situation on the Kupiansk direction remains tense. On August 2 and 3, Russian troops continued offensive operations, but the Armed Forces of Ukraine responded with counterattacks. Furthermore, the Ukrainian side is conducting its own offensive operation in this sector.

### Russian claims and analysts' version

Russian military bloggers are again claiming advances by the Russian army in the Kupiansk area. According to their assertions, the occupiers have taken positions in the central part of the city, south of Radkovka, in the northern part of Kupiansk-Uzlovoy, and west of this settlement. It is also reported that Ukrainian forces are counterattacking from the vicinity of Kupiansk, and fighting continues for the bridge over the Oscol River in Kupiansk-Uzlovoy.

However, American analysts from the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) point out that at this time there is no evidence of confirmed advances by the Russian army on this section of the front. Thus, the claims of Russian bloggers remain unconfirmed.

###  Destruction of Russian artillery

On August 3, Ukrainian military commentator Yuri Butusov reported the destruction of a Russian wheeled self-propelled artillery gun 2S44 "Hyacinth-K" on the Kupiansk direction. This is already the second confirmed case of the destruction of this system since the beginning of the full-scale invasion.

### Two SBU operations in the Kharkiv region

Spokesperson of the 2nd Corps of the National Guard of Ukraine "Kharkiv" Vladimir Degtyarev said that the Defense Forces are simultaneously conducting two operations in the Kharkiv region. The goal is to push the Russian occupiers away from the state border and maintain full fire control over Kupiansk and ground routes that the enemy uses to transfer reinforcements.

Degtyarev also noted that the Russian army lacks personnel on this section of the front. Therefore, according to him, there is no need to fear a breakthrough of the Ukrainian defense in the Kharkiv region.

### Problem with KABs

Despite this, the enemy is actively using guided aerial bombs (KABs). The reason is that the Armed Forces of Ukraine currently do not have sufficient capabilities to destroy the aircraft from which such strikes are carried out.
