# Gasoline by license plate: strict refueling restrictions introduced in Kursk region due to Ukrainian strikes

A unprecedented system of restrictions on vehicle refueling is being introduced in the Kursk region. Starting July 15, drivers in the region will have to rely not only on the amount of fuel in their tanks but also on the last digit of their license plate. This decision is a response to a series of successful attacks by the Armed Forces of Ukraine on fuel infrastructure facilities.

### New rules: even-odd

Regional authorities have proposed a sort of "novelty" to residents, aimed at bringing order to the chaos arising from the shortage. According to the new scheme, access to the pumps will depend on the date and the vehicle's license plate number:

    - On **odd-numbered days**, vehicles with license plates ending in 1, 3, 5, 7, or 9 will be allowed to refuel.

    - On **even-numbered days**, priority is given to vehicles with license plates ending in 0, 2, 4, 6, or 8.

It is important to note that the rule is universal and applies to all drivers, regardless of where the vehicle is registered. This means that transit vehicles and cars from neighboring regions will also be subject to local restrictions.

### The cause: strikes on logistics

The reason for such radical measures is a series of Ukrainian strikes on gas stations. According to local residents, only in the last week, five gas stations were hit. As a result, a special traffic scheme is being introduced at 22 gas stations in the border area and several major stations in Kursk: only one car will be able to be at the pump at a time, while others will be forced to wait at a safe distance.

The situation with fuel in Russia against the backdrop of these events is becoming increasingly tense. In June, sharp spikes in gasoline prices were already recorded in the country. Experts cite Ukrainian strikes on oil refineries (OR) and fuel logistics facilities as one of the key reasons.

### Kremlin reaction and consequences for occupiers

Russian President Vladimir Putin personally acknowledged that the actions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are creating "certain problems with petroleum products in the Russian Federation." At the same time, the Kremlin hopes that the situation will gradually improve, however, the introduction of restrictions by license plate number indicates that the shortage is acute.

At the same time, on the occupied territories in southern Ukraine, Russian troops are facing the opposite effect. Due to destroyed logistics and strikes on infrastructure, the occupiers are forced to limit the refueling of their own mobile fire groups and air defense systems. This significantly hampers their ability to cover positions from Ukrainian drones, making the equipment vulnerable.
