## Key Points

- Kyiv air defense efficiency in intercepting jet drones has risen to 80%
- September 2026 featured massive strikes with an interception rate of about 57%
- Attacks damaged infrastructure including data centers, retail, and pharmaceuticals
- The enemy plans to increase drone speeds to 700-800 km/h, posing a new challenge for air defense

Ukrainian air defense forces have significantly increased the effectiveness of destroying enemy jet drones over Kyiv, raising the interception rate to over 80%. This was stated by military expert and former SBU officer Ivan Stupak in the RBC-Ukraine podcast "TSE BAZA", commenting on the severe consequences of massive attacks in previous months.

### Results of a Difficult Period and Scope of Threats

The end of summer and September 2026 became a severe test for Kyiv's infrastructure due to the regular use of new jet drones. The enemy directed drones toward the capital mainly through the Chernihiv region and the Chornobyl zone. During periods of the most intense raids, devices were recorded in the airspace every thirty to forty minutes, creating extreme pressure on air defense crews.

During that period, the rate of successful interceptions did not exceed 57 percent, leading to numerous hits on civilian and industrial facilities. Data centers, office buildings of large companies, Epicenter shopping malls, and enterprises in the food, non-food, and pharmaceutical sectors suffered damage.

### Adaptation of Air Defense Forces

Thanks to the rapid adaptation of tactics and the introduction of new countermeasure tools, the situation in the capital region has noticeably improved. According to the expert, air target destruction rates have now risen to 80 percent, and the amount of damage to civilian and commercial infrastructure has decreased.

At the same time, the intensity of attacks remains extremely high. At certain times, from ten-twenty-three to fifty enemy drones are simultaneously recorded over the capital region, requiring continuous operation of all defense echelons.

### New Technological Challenges for Air Defense

Experts call the potential increase in the speed characteristics of enemy devices the main threat in the near future. While current jet drones move at a speed of five hundred to six hundred kilometers per hour, upgrading them to seven hundred to eight hundred kilometers per hour will create fundamentally new difficulties.

In this regard, the question arises as to whether there is sufficient structural margin and effectiveness of specialized interceptor drones capable of efficiently hitting air targets at ultra-high speeds. Currently, Ukraine has already deployed seven such interceptors, but the technological race continues.
