On the evening of October 18, 2026, an air raid alert was declared in Kyiv. According to information provided by RBC-Ukraine citing the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Kyiv City Military Administration, a missile threat was recorded in the capital, and the danger level was raised to red. This means there is an immediate danger of ballistic or high-speed weapons strikes, during which civilians are ordered to stay in shelters. ### Missile warning and explosions in the city The Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine warned of a missile moving toward Kyiv. As follows from the primary source reports, it is a ballistic weapon. Shortly before or around this warning, explosions rang out in the capital. Specific details regarding which facilities were hit and what the consequences are were not officially disclosed at the time of publication. ### Call for Kyiv residents to go to shelters The Kyiv City Military Administration urged residents of the capital to immediately move to the nearest shelters and not leave them until the official alert is lifted. This is a standard recommendation during a red danger level, when the time to evacuate to a shelter is minimal and the risk of a strike is high. ### Context: Repeated ballistic strikes on the capital The events of October 18 fit into a series of nighttime and evening attacks on Ukrainian cities using ballistic weapons. Earlier in October, similar strikes were recorded both in Kyiv and in other regions, highlighting the persistent threat from high-speed missiles that are difficult to intercept at all stages of flight. Official structures continue to remind people of the need to have an action plan during an alert and to know the locations of the nearest shelters. ## Fact-Check & Sources - [Россия атакует Киев баллистикой, в столице раздались взрывы](https://www.rbc.ua/ukr/news/rosiya-atakue-kiyiv-balistikoyu-stolitsi-1792353828.html) - Primary source: air raid alert, red level, Air Force missile warning for Kyiv, explosions in the city, KCMA shelter call.
