# Kyiv and Berlin Establish Working Group to Return Men of Conscription Age

Ukraine and Germany have intensified diplomatic efforts to address the issue of returning citizens of conscription age to their homeland. It has been reported that the parties have already formed a special working group to coordinate this process. This was stated by the Ambassador of Ukraine to the Federal Republic of Germany, Oleksiy Makieiev, in an interview with journalists.

The diplomat clarified that the issue concerns not all Ukrainians residing in Germany, but exclusively those who left the country illegally. To implement this task, Kyiv is using a comprehensive approach consisting of two key directions.

### Unity Hub: Engaging with Society

The first element of the strategy is the support centers for Ukrainians — Unity Hub. These platforms were created for direct interaction between the state and the diaspora. The main goal is to inform citizens about existing opportunities and options for a legal return home.

According to Makieiev, the first such center has already begun operations in central Berlin. Currently, its activities are gradually expanding to cover more compatriots. The diplomat emphasized the importance of conveying the real picture of the situation and the available ways to resolve their problems to the people.

### Inter-agency Cooperation

The second component of the program is close interaction between Ukrainian and German state structures. For this purpose, a joint working group has been created, within the framework of which information exchange takes place and specific mechanisms for repatriation are being developed.

"We understand how we can contribute to the return together with the Germans," the ambassador noted. He confirmed that mechanisms for returning men who illegally left Ukraine are already under development. However, the details of these mechanisms are not yet disclosed, as they are the subject of current negotiations within the working group.

This step comes against the backdrop of growing attention from the European Union to issues of migration and mobilization. Previously, Hungarian leader Peter Magyar openly opposed granting asylum to Ukrainians of conscription age. Brussels is also discussing the possibility of partially restricting protection for Ukrainian men.

Within Ukraine, the situation with mobilization remains tense. Ombudsman Dmytro Lubynets recently named the regions where a record number of conscription rule violations have been recorded. Under these conditions, dialogue with key partners, such as Germany, acquires special significance.
