# Kyiv under attack: powerful ballistic explosions on the night of July 8

The night of July 8 became a new test of resilience for Kyiv. Powerful explosions that rocked the capital forced residents to seek shelter and prompted authorities to activate the alert system. According to RBK-Ukraine, citing the Kyiv City Military Administration (KMVA) and its own correspondents, Russia launched ballistic missile strikes.

### Delay in the air raid siren

The situation unfolded rapidly. At 00:32, an official message was issued in the city: "Attention! An air raid has been declared in Kyiv due to the threat of enemy ballistic weapons. We ask all residents of the capital to immediately proceed to the nearest shelters and remain there until the end of the alert".

However, as observers note, the explosions in the capital occurred several minutes before the official air raid alarm was declared in the city. Initially, the cause of the explosions remained unclear, but later, the head of the Kyiv City Military Administration (KMVA), Tymur Tkachenko, confirmed that it was indeed a strike by ballistic missiles.

### Confirmation of the threat

Information regarding the nature of the attack was also confirmed by the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Commanders detected a threat from ballistic weapons arriving from the north. Soon after the first wave, a second series of explosions rocked the capital, indicating that the enemy had launched another ballistic strike on the city.

As of 00:41, the air raid map showed that the alert signal remained active in Kyiv and several other regions, requiring the population to stay in safe locations.

### Escalation of attacks

This incident fits into the broader picture of increased pressure on the Ukrainian capital. In recent months, especially starting in July, attacks on Kyiv have become more frequent. The last combined attack occurred just two days prior, on the night of July 6. At that time, the enemy employed drones and various types of missiles.

The most significant damage from previous strikes was recorded in Kyiv and the Kyiv region, particularly in the settlement of Vyshneve in the Bucha district.

### Cleanup efforts

While the city prepares for new challenges, work continues to eliminate the consequences of past attacks. On July 7, search and rescue operations were completed at two locations in the Podil and Darnytskyi districts of Kyiv. Now, the second phase has begun in these areas: liquidation of consequences and infrastructure restoration.
