Larysa Rusnak, a People's Artist of Ukraine, shared in a rare candid interview the emotions surrounding the loss of her mother, who was 83 years old. The actress revealed that the last days of her mother's life coincided with intensive work on the play “Odyssey,” and that this period became a turning point in her understanding of her relationship with her loved one. According to Rusnak, she repeatedly asked to leave rehearsals to travel to Odesa and help her brother, whose condition at the bedside of his sick mother was growing worse.

### “I Felt Fear and Danger”

Describing the moment of her mother's passing, the actress did not sugarcoat her feelings: “In the moment of her departure, I felt fear and danger.” However, she said, her state changed when she stood on her knees by her mother's bedside for three days and three nights, leaving only to use the toilet or to eat. In the final moments of life, a priest was called to her mother, and Rusnak held her hand and tried to comfort her: “Mommy, don't be afraid, I'm right here, I'm holding your hand. Everything is fine, you are not alone, and you will not be alone there either, they are waiting for you there.” The actress confessed that she does not know exactly where these words came from, but she hopes that her mother is well now.

### Reassessment and Transformation

Rusnak emphasized that the loss of a close person radically changed her perception of life: “Very much so. There was a reassessment, a transformation in my attitude toward her.” The actress does not hide that until the final days of her mother's life, their relationship was of a different nature, and the grief she experienced made her look anew at what had been close to her but perhaps undervalued. She also noted that in times of loss and difficult life circumstances, it is important not to close oneself off: “Yes, we really need this: not to bury it inside, but to speak at the moment when you feel it.”

### “I See the Goal, I See No Obstacles” — Her Mother's Legacy

Talking about what character traits she inherited from her mother, Rusnak warmly recalled her energy and tireless work ethic: “I feel my mother's stubbornness in myself: the mindset that you must always work, you can't sit idle — even in a clean apartment I start tidying something up.” The actress directly links her professional persistence to her mother's example: “Her energy, her desire to achieve what you want — ‘I see the goal, I see no obstacles' — that comes from my mother. I am very grateful to her for everything she gave me.”

### A Blade of Grass Through the Asphalt

Concluding her account of what she had been through, Rusnak turned to a metaphor that, by her own admission, became the philosophical summary of the past few months: “It's like a blade of grass growing through the asphalt: it doesn't think that there is asphalt above and that it won't break through. It simply pushes its way through.” In her view, life can change very quickly, and a person is not always able to control the circumstances, but it is precisely in this inability that the source of inner strength lies.
