The legendary Silverstone circuit witnessed one of the most dramatic and unexpected finishes in the history of modern Formula 1. The British Grand Prix, the ninth round of the World Championship, delivered a triumph for Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc. The race, filled with technical glitches, penalties, and strategic errors, concluded under a yellow flag, a rare occurrence for the Royal Race.

### The Start and Tactical Errors

The race began with an unexpected twist: at the start, Ferrari drivers Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton managed to overtake pole-sitter Andrea Kimi Antonelli from Mercedes. However, the fight for the lead was short-lived, and the Italian driver soon reclaimed his position in the duel with the Briton.

The situation was exacerbated by a penalty for seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton. He received a five-second penalty for a false start, which significantly altered the tactical landscape and forced his team to find ways to compensate for the lost time.

### The Collapse of the Season Leader's Hopes

After a series of pit stops, the battle for the podium intensified. While Hamilton, Max Verstappen (Red Bull), and George Russell (Mercedes) shared the podium spots, Antonelli, on fresher tires, rapidly closed in on leader Leclerc. However, on lap 42, the season leader's fate turned against him: his car suffered a suspension failure.

Antonelli was forced to make three pit stops. In addition to technical issues, he received a penalty for repeatedly leaving the track. Ultimately, the driver who could have claimed victory finished only 16th.

### Finish Under Safety Car

The climax of the race was an incident four laps from the finish. Max Verstappen, fighting for a podium spot, spun off into the gravel. His evacuation forced the stewards to deploy the Safety Car. Most leaders took this opportunity to change tires, which allowed George Russell to overtake Hamilton in the pits.

Despite the drivers' expectations, the race director never gave the restart. The peloton crossed the finish line behind the Safety Car in a fixed order. This is the first such case in Formula 1 since the 2022 Italian Grand Prix.

### Results and Standings

For Charles Leclerc, this triumph was his first of the current season and his ninth in his career. Ferrari secured a double podium: second place went to George Russell, and Lewis Hamilton finished third.

In the Constructors' Championship, Mercedes leads comfortably with 333 points. Ferrari is in second place (255 points), while McLaren remains third (179 points).

The next round of the 2026 season will take place from July 17–19 in Belgium at the classic Spa-Francorchamps circuit.
